Why Bozo?
BECAUSE one out of every ten Americans in the United States today has been on a live Bozo Show. In addition, over 300 million people have watched Bozo on television for 47 consecutive years. The Bozo Show reached approximately 50 million U.S. homes weekly on WGN, the Super station, where the Bozo Show aired for 40 consecutive years (the show went off the air in 2001). The WGN Bozo Show has been so popular that WGN created a Christmas special, which has aired for the past seven years - on Christmas Eve during prime time and on Christmas day showing the best of Bozo. It has played throughout the United States, Canada and Central America and was rated number one in its time slot. Bozo has even recently appeared in Public Service Announcements for WGN, in numerous televised Parades on behalf of WGN to promote their television station (such as the McDonald’s Thanksgiving Day Parade) and is a mascot for WGN’s children’s block of television shows.
BECAUSE as of today, the live Bozo Show has been on in every television market in the United States (there were 183 individual live Bozo Shows on at one time in the United States) and has also aired in many other countries as well, such as Mexico, Greece, Australia, Thailand and Brazil. Bozo was on the air consistently without interruption for 47 years and is the longest running international program for the entire family in the history of television. In addition, the 156 Bozo cartoons with Bozo and his Buddies have played in almost every country in the world.
In the coming months, a brand new Bozo TV Show will begin airing throughout Brazil. SBT-TV, the largest television network in Brazil, will soon be producing brand new live Bozo TV Shows, broadcasting the 156 newly digitized and reformatted Bozo Cartoons, selling Bozo merchandise and having Bozo meet and greet fans throughout the country. The Bozo Show is not new to SBT – the Show was an all-time favorite to Brazilian families for many years during the 1980’s and 1990’s. This is just the first of many more new live Bozo TV Shows to come!
BECAUSE other properties have come and gone and Bozo has stood the test of time. And because today there is a consumer base of millions and millions of devoted Bozo television fans that has been developed and built for his 47 years on television and through personal appearances throughout the world. These consumers today are the buying public; from your Grandparents to Moms and Dads to adults and children of all ages.
BECAUSE since the mid-1950’s to the present day, several thousand Bozo products have been licensed to manufacturers for retail distribution around the world. Our retail development team has created a branded line of merchandise with Bozo that over these many years has generated millions of dollars in proven product sales worldwide. Stores like Wal-Mart, Target, Kmart, Cracker Barrel Spencer Gifts and Sharper Image are among many of the mass and specialty retailers that have capitalized, and are capitalizing, on the success of Bozo.
There are several licensed products currently in the marketplace and in the process of being manufactured such as “Bozo’s Grand Prize Game” from the original Bozo TV Show. Products such as the Classic Bozo Bop Bag from the 1960’s, now in its 9th successful year being sold in gift and specialty stores, the Talking Bozo Bop Bag (featuring the voice of Larry Harmon as Bozo), Halloween Costumes, a line of Charms and Charm Bracelets, Plush Bozo Dolls, and our Bozo Bank are being sold at retailers nationwide.
Bozo personal appearances also often coincide with the marketing and promotion of the licensed products lines and a live Bozo could be made available for special promotional appearances.
HarperCollins Publishers, one of the largest book publishers in the world, has published Larry "Bozo" Harmon's autobiography. The Larry “Bozo” Harmon autobiography entitled “The Man Behind The Nose,” offers a memoir that is filled with laughter and excitement, recounting Larry Harmon’s adventures as Bozo on a training mission with the Apollo Astronauts, with the U.S. Navy as a deep sea diver, running for President of the United States, searching for the cannibals of New Guinea, training as a firefighter with the New York City Fire Department and much more.
BECAUSE families feel safe when Bozo endorses a product since Bozo has always been associated with good clean innocent fun, family values, and quality entertainment for children of all ages. In today’s world climate, more than ever, Parents and Grandparents want a classic icon that represents non-violent entertainment like the kind they grew up with.
BECAUSE Bozo holds an all-time ticket record. In the 1990’s, the first-ever “Bozo TV Show” national free audience ticket lottery was held coast to coast. AN UNBELIEVABLE 27 MILLION ATTEMPTED PHONE CALLS WERE MADE IN 5 HOURS (as backed up by Illinois Bell’s statistics), and snapped up 156,000 tickets for audience seats at future “Bozo Show” TV tapings during the 1990’s.
BECAUSE there has been a wait for as long as 10 years for tickets to see Bozo. Newspapers have consistently written, “When women find out that they are pregnant, the first thing they do is write for tickets to the “Bozo Show.”” Oprah Winfrey featured a segment on her national network TV show on the topic of “The hardest tickets to get in the United States.” Of course, Bozo was at the very top. In fact, Oprah had Bozo with her as a guest star on the show along with a young man who had just received his tickets to “The Bozo Show” after ten years of waiting. By the way, he told Oprah, “after ten years of waiting for tickets, you can be sure that I will be going to see Bozo.”
BECAUSE Larry Harmon Pictures Corporation continues to find and train the live Bozo character for television and personal appearances as well as for many other venues. As of this date, Larry Harmon Pictures Corporation has trained 205 Bozo’s from around the world at Bozo University. Bozo has made appearances at retail outlets throughout the years, such as appearances at Target Stores, Kmart, and Crown Book Stores, only to mention a few.
The Target Stores invited Larry Harmon to appear as Bozo as the star of their Rose Parade float a few years ago. The float was called “Clowning Around” and the Target Stores won one of the first prizes in the Rose Parade Tournament for that year.
Bozo has also appeared in venues such as State Fairs, Amusement Parks, and as a celebrity guest for many events such as The White House Easter Egg Hunt, on talk shows, game shows such as Jeopardy, parades, and large charity events. For ten consecutive years Bozo performed three half-hour live Bozo shows six days a week at Canobie Lake Amusement Park in Salem, New Hampshire for three months. Every year over 1 million visitors came through Canobie Lake Park to see the Bozo Show. Canobie Lake Amusement Park is the oldest privately owned amusement park in the United States and just recently celebrated its 100th year Anniversary. Bozo and the Bozo Show during the three months at Canobie Lake Park were heavily promoted throughout the New England states on television, radio, newspapers and billboards as well as through the major mass-market retailers.
BECAUSE Bozo has been tireless in his efforts on behalf of family charities throughout the world over the past 50 years and to this day continues to raise millions of dollars for the children of the world.
